William Mason in York - between the 1750's and 25 January, 1796

from Letter from William Mason to Richard Hurd, Aston, January 25, 1796, page 121:

I remember, when the Nicene Creed was sung at York [Minster], It was was usual for the Dean or Officiating Residentiary to chant audibly 'I believe in one God' - & then the Organ and Choir took up in their Counterpoint & Canon the rest of it.
