Benjamin Britten in London - 12 February, 1931

from Diary of Benjamin Britten, Feb 12 1931, page 64:

Go to John Ireland's Studio at 10.0. He is quite pleased with my work (more or less i.e.) except for numerous consecutive firths. Walk back. Practise in afternoon, & then meet Barbara at Selfridges & have something in the Soda Fountain business with her & Miss Gibson. Go to Madrigals afterwards. Listen to a bit of Appalachia after dinner. Luxurious monotony; rather disconnected, I thought. hallé chorus & orchestra.
