Frank Martin in Rome - 1921

from With strings attached- Reminiscences and reflections, 2nd edition, enlarged, pages 355-356:

When the composer [Frank Martin] sent me his manuscript, he wrote that he had never forgotten my playing of the Beethoven Concerto at the Augusteo in Rome under Bernardo Molinari, in 1921, and that ever since then he had “equated” the sound of the violin with my way of playing it.
