With JH to Arleen Auger's recital. She sounds beautiful, if careful, with a selection that lacks energy, or at least histrionics. A Schoenberg group from 1899 predates certain Strauss songs also included. But Arleen sang them with a touch - inappropriate - of sprechstimme and darkness, thinking doubtless that Schoenberg is Schoenberg after all, and that's what you do.
