Hermann Klein in London - 1879

from Thirty Years of Musical Life in London, page 101:

Eighteen hundred and seventy-nine was the busiest musical year that I ever experienced in London. We had opera from January until July, and again from October to December. Carl Rosa set the ball rolling at Her Majesty's, producing "Rienzi" for the first time in England, and "Carmen," with the piquant Selina Dolaro in the title-role, for the first time in the vernacular.
