in Royal Festival Hall - the 1950's

from Southbank Centre Archive:

Hearing the great Alfred Deller in 'Messiah' filling the RFH with that unique voice:-   seeing the incomparable Louis Armstrong steal the show at a benefit concert for Hungary:-   watching RFH stewards trying vainly to deal with protesters at a famous Russian orchestra's concert:-   the musicians were ashen! - wonderful mid-week 6p.m. organ concerts.
