Notes

Letter from Paul Eluard to Francis Poulenc. At the end of September 1938 Paul and Nusch Eluard rented 'la Maison grise' in Le Pecq, near Saint-Germain-en-Layne, and outlying suburb to the west of Paris. They remained there until September 1939 when Eluard, a lieutenant in the reserve army, was called up.
