La Brebis caused a great scandal among the season-ticket subscribers during the first act. Police intervened, performance stopped. Wolff yelled at the audience; then, by the end of the second act, we 'had' them. Carré is going to publish the press criticisms of Pelléas. He is very good, but the Isola brothers are terrified.

Letter from Darius Milhaud to Francis Poulenc, 1923. 'La Brebis égarée, Milhaud's first opera, with a text by Francis Jammes (1868-1938), was written in 1910-1914 and first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in December 1923, conducted by Albert Wolff (1884-1970). Wolff had been conductor at the Opéra-Comique since 1911. He was director of music there from 1921-24 and director from 1945-46.
