In the evening I had a great and unexpected pleasure. [quoted from the author's diary:] “Remi had again invited me to play duetts with him, and to day I was able to bring him a new one of my composition. After we had played this through for the second time, he embraced me and said: You must change violins with me, so that we may possess a souvenir of each other! I was overcome with surprise and joy; for his violin had long pleased me better than my own.
