Lionel Tertis - 1901

from My Viola and I: a complete autobiography / Lionel Tertis, page 20:

My mind recalls again and again the tremendous impression on me of his first appearance in 1901 when I heard him [Fritz Kreisler] give a breath-taking and unmatchable performance of the Brahms violin concerto. I was thrilled to the marrow – such matchless string playing from every point of view was the nearest thing to perfection that I think mortal man could experience.
