'The Contemporaries' in St. Petersburg - mid October, 1908
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 17 October 1908, pages 65-66:
The 'Contemporaries' accorded polite acknowledgement to my Symphony and were complimentary about it, but on the whole received it coolly. It is not their style, although they were very enthusiastic about the last two piano pieces, 'Humoresque' and 'Suggestion diabolique'. When I played the latter, there were certain passages that made them laugh out loud and jump up and down in their seats. They want to have them performed at the end of November, but for that I shall need Wihtol's permission.
