Sophie Augustine Leo in Paris - early 19th Century
from Musical Life in Paris (1817-1848): A Chapter from the Memoirs of Sophie Augustine Leo--Part I, page 266:
His opera Jeannot et Colin, more especially his Rendezvous bourgeois, sparkled with life and animation; I doubt whether a more amusing subject than the latter is to be found. Though I can no longer remember enough of the detail to retell the story, I know that the merriment of the spectators was endless and that the music had caught the spirit of the text.
