My father at this time knew Harold Craxton, father of the great oboist, who was a professor at the Royal Academy of Music with Ernest Read. Through him I was able to attend one of Ernest Read's Summer Schools of Music at Bangor and was then asked to become a founder member of his Senior Orchestra, finding myself in what I now know to be very distinguished company - Evelyn Rothwell (Lady Barbirolli), Jack Brymer, Dennis Brain, to name but a few.
