That evening, Merimanova and I arrived at the Conservatoire to find anxious preparations already in train to ensure everyone had flowers for Yesipova and the presentation of the bouquet had been organized. The concert started. Auer played the Tchaikovsky Concerto simply magnificently, although afterwards some of his students were very critical. For my part, I listened with rare enjoyment.
