Anna Yesipova in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - mid December, 1910

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 22 December 1910, page 194:

One day I brought to Yesipova's class Glazunov's Second Sonata. This is a lovely work, as good as his First Sonata and even more original. But as well known as No. 1 is, so is No. 2 ignored and forgotten. Anna Nikolayevna [Yesipova] made a great to-do about 'exotic' repertoire but listened to the Sonata before declaring that it would have been better for such rubbish never to have been written. I replied calmly, 'Unfortunately, Anna Nikolayevna, Glazunov is never liked on first hearing.'
