Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 13 December, 1912
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 13 December 1912, page 260:
The rehearsal was in costume. Backstage all was gaiety; everybody knew everyone else but could not recognise them, just like at a fancy dress party. Lel was enchanting: a slim, elegant boy, perfect for the part. 'He' was less nervous and sang rather better, but still not especially well. Feinberg (Snow Maiden), Molchanov (Thibaut) and Levitan (Bertrand) were all excellent, the last named being my favourite on account of his impassioned performing style, dramatic gifts and outstanding voice.
