26 January I did not wake up until nine o'clock, but Seryozha enjoyed hearing the innocent voices of the children going to school at seven. At ten we summoned Vasily Mitrofanovich and revealed our artful scheme: he was very near taking offence but was at least partly mollified by the second and third movements of the Rachmaninov Concerto and the whole of the Prokofiev Concerto.
