Ignatz Moscheles in London - at the end of 1843
from Recent Music and Musicians, page 298:
Jullien still thrives; he has actually taken to Beethoven's Symphonies, and by way of contrast we are favored with Roch Albert's Tone-picture the 'Destruction of Pompeii,' with storms, crashes, prayers, Bacchante dances, oracles, utter darkness, and then a blaze of fireworks; great and small effects, for great and small children!
