Now, twenty years later, there we were, both living in Southern California, meeting at my home, and playing the Duo Concertant that stems from 1932 but belongs to the same phase of neoclassicism. It was like reliving a past experience to sense in the sixty-two-year-old master essentially the same attitude, admirably compounded of equal parts of humility and pride (…) While playing, replaying, and discussing certain unorthodox devices of mine (to reinforce the G-string passage in the Gigue of this Duo), he professed with utter simplicity his love for the physical aspects of music realization.… more >>
