The procession of Cardinals started from a small church at the other extremity of the. Quirinal, with a file of the Guardia Nobile right and left of them, preceded by the attendants who were to be shut in with them, and by the singers of the Papal Chapel, who performed the 'Veni, Creator Spiritus:' the effect would have been perfect, but for the striking up of a vulgar and dissonant military band, as the doors closed.
