The rediscovery of Fournier’s immense talent when we started rehearsing for the first Edinburgh Festival (1947) was a revelation to me. I had last heard him in the middle 1930’s and was now tremendously impressed by the Apollonian beauty and poise that his playing had acquired in the intervening years.
