Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 18 February, 20th Century, in the morning
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 18 February 1913, page 318:
As I walked over to the orchestra class this morning I had a feeling that because of Shrovetide nobody would show up. So it proved, and after struggling on until eleven Tcherepnin dismissed half the orchestra that had come. Then they played a rather silly quartet by Vyshnegradsky for three flutes and harp, after which we went through excerpts from A Life for the Tsar* in view of the tercentenary of the Romanov dynasty.
