Venice was in the greatest excitement on his arrival. Italy had been in the strangest way won over to WAGNER at Bologna, under the able and enthusiastic baton of a lamented Maestro; indeed, LISZT told me he had never heard WAGNER'S operas more effectively given, except at Bayreuth.
