Glazunov was supposed to be coming to the Graduation Concert rehearsal today; Tcherepnin had told me that the composer wanted to conduct his concerto himself. At first I was peturbed by this: were Zermüllen and Motseikevna* up to something? But it transpired that Glazunov had from the very beginning intended to take the baton, so I relaxed. Tcherepnin saw some advantages in this, in that the presence of the Director would encourage the orchestra to pay more attention to what they were doing.
