Sergei Prokofiev - 13 December, 1914, at night
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 13 December 1914, page 796:
In the evening I went to the Imperial Russian Musical Society concert, devoted to the works of Glazunov. The first piece I heard was The King of the Jews, a feeble work but with one or two very good numbers in it and wonderful effects, you could not tell how they were achieved, such as far-off echoes from Pilate's feasting as Christ was being led to his execution. [later note: NB: clarinets doubling trumpets - keep in mind for the Sunrise in the ballet]
