Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 14 November, 1914, in the morning
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 14 November 1914, pages 776-777:
Rose early today, at nine, and went to the symphony orchestra rehearsal. They were performing Lyadov - and very dull it was. Jejeune ideas, cramped harmonies and counterpoint so academic as to be positively sickening made a sorry impression. Tcherepnin was as charming as ever. Putting on a sly expression, he sat down and said, 'I've started on a ballet as well - and on a Russian theme too!'*
