At two o'clock went with some pleasurable anticipation to my new pupil on Fratsuzskaya Quay*. She was looking less attractive today. I was greeted by the Prince, a most courteous gentleman, who conducted us to the piano and then left us. My new pupil was evidently very nervous, and indeed her playing was full of horrible solecisms: uneven chords, a grasp of rhythm amounting to 2 x 2 = 5, the weak accents in the bar played more strongly than the strong ones, and so on.
