Sylvia Townsend Warner in Maiden Newton - 21 November, 1965

from The diaries of Sylvia Townsend Warner, page 298:

Listening last night to the new Rome production of Don Carlos; a quick soft purr of clapping at the beginning, at the curtain-rising, of the dungeon scene.  The new set, of course.  How agreeable for the designer to get this instant approval.
