William Holland in Over Stowey - 4 September, 1800
from Paupers and pig killers / William Holland, page 46:
Mr Amen supped at the Vicarage and had some strong beer and they tell me gave them a song or two. If his voice was as tremulous as when he cries Amen at Church there must have been many quavers and demiquavers in his tune.
