in Royal Festival Hall - August, 1951

from Southbank Centre Archive:

My first visit to the Royal Festival Hall was in August 1951where I heard Jan Smeterlin give an afternoon Chopin recital. I was terribly impressed by the modernity of the buildings and its plush interior. This was my highlight of a day's outing at the Festival of Britain.
