in Royal Festival Hall - the 1950's

from Southbank Centre Archive:

1.  Guido Cantelli conducting "The Philharmonic" (Brahms, etc) ticket price 2/6d (half a crown) seated behind orchestra!   2.  Leningrad Philharmonic - Shostakovich and Britten in Royal Box and "The Variations on a Theme of Purcell" by Britten - overwhelming - programmes were thrown in the air.  I became hoarse with cheering.
