in Royal Festival Hall - the 1950's

from Southbank Centre Archive:

My father took me to one of the very earliest events shortly after the Festival Hall opened. It was a gala evening of the Machine Tool Trades Association.  I remember a military brass band and other music. The atmosphere was of excitement at being in this latest addition to London. The newness, the exploration of the hall and all its features and the sense of being privileged to being an early user.
