I was so lucky - after many years and a cancellation of a proposed concert the year before Arturo Toscanini the world's greatest conductor was giving two Brahms concerts and I was so lucky to have got a ticket in the ballot for the second of them. It was his first appearance since 1939 and he was too old to come again. It was perfection - from the moment he came on the podium via a special platform made for his aged legs.
