in Royal Festival Hall - February, the 1950's

from Southbank Centre Archive:

It was on a snowy February night that Joan Sutherland performed wonderfully as Alcina, a concert performance with superb style, conducted by Richard Bonynge. Sutherland's presence and her respect for and encouragement of her fellow principals brought to mind a mother hen 9 of a very glamorous species naturally!).
