Béla Bartók in Odessa - in the beginning of 1929
from Béla Bartók Letters, page 193:
After the concert we went to a ‘lordly’ mansion now owned by some Ukrainian People’s Commissariat, where a banquet was held in my honour to seal the Hungaro-Ukrainian friendship. There were speeches for which I, too, had to give thanks in return; then there was also a concert afterwards: they played among other things, the 3rd movement of my 1st String Quartet, and quite passably.
