Seeing that the Concerto had been so ceremoniously introduced and studied yesterday*, I had to practise it assiduously myself in the morning in order not to disgrace myself in the solo part, particularly as I had not looked at it since the day of the competition. At two o'clock I went to the rehearsal, where Tcherepnin gleefully announced that as he had already started rehearsing it yesterday, he would begin with it today. While waiting for the orchestra to assemble he sat with the trombones and went through with them some of the interjections made my the brass. This produced something like… more >>
