At such times I could not bear to be alone, experiencing a desperate longing to be with people. I attended the Graduation Ceremony in the Conservatoire and several of the public examinations, I went to Pavlovsk for the opening orchestral concerts of the season there, I often visited Bashkirov and spent a great deal of time on the telephone to Eleonora.
