Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 6 January, 1916

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 6 January 1916, page 66:

It was definitely a shrewd move on my part to start with the second movement, because the orchestra attacked it with enthusiasm, even seeming to enjoy learning the passage-work. Parts of it sound extremely interesting, and altogether it looks as though 'Alochka' is going to take off like a rocket. The orchestra played the first movement very well indeed, and it was only in the harmonics that we came to grief. At that point we stopped, since the rehearsal time had run out.
