Sergei Prokofiev in Saint Petersburg Conservatory - 9 January, 1916
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 9 January 1916, page 67:
At eleven o'clock they had a break after which Tcherepnin and I changed over, he coming to the strings and I taking over the wind. Here things were not so good: an atmosphere of indolence, everything terribly loud, the music more complex than that for the strings, the dissonances sounding more strident and occasioning even angrier grimaces, which I, empathising with the bassons and horns, could even admit to a certain embarrassment that I was obliging them to make such disagreeable sounds. In addition, from lack of practice, I got extremely tired.
