Sergei Prokofiev - 8 February, 1916
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 8 February 1916, page 86:
Butomo-Nazvamova is going to sing Duckling in Moscow, accompanied by Karatygin. She has transposed it a tone lower, and I heard this version today. The effect of the transposition is extraordinary, it sounds completely different and I found myself listening to some passages as if the music had been written by someone else. This experience may have given me an inkling of what my works must sound like to someone hearing them for the first time and being perplexed by the unfamiliar juxtapositions.
