One of my few shipboard acquaintances was a young girl from Sarapul in the depths of the country. She was in second class but came into our deck saloon and cheerfully started to strum on the piano there. I went over and at the appropriate moment turned the pages of the score she was playing from, an ability she evidently found quite amazing. Having more or less got to the end of the piece, she jumped up and dashed out of the saloon. A little while later, meeting her on deck, I asked her if she would play some more.
