A year later Johann Strauss took his orchestra "on tour " for the first time to Russia, and underwent some uncommonly quaint adventures and experiences in that country. It was odd, for instance, that a railway company should engage him to give a series of concerts in the capital, to attend which entertainments it ran excursion trains from different stations on its line.
