At the period of my boyhood that Institute [of Church Music] was flourishing under the guidance of Musik director Professor Julius Schaffer, who also conducted the " Sing-Akademie," the premier Choral Society of the place, whose performances of the Messiah at Christmas and of Haydn's Creation at Easter came as regularly once a year as those seasons themselves.
