Sergei Prokofiev in Metropolitan Opera House, Lincoln Center, New York - 27 February, 1919, at night

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 27 February 1919, page 394:

In the evening I went to Pelléas. The original plan had been to go with Dagmar, but as she did not telephone I went on my own. In the end we ended up in the same box, having both obtained passes from the management. I wanted very much to immerse myself in the opera, which moves me deeply, but I found my equilibrium disturbed by Dagmar's proximity so that Dagmar quite spoiled Pelléas for meand Pelléas spoiled Dagmar. I parted coldly from her and returned home upset.
