At eight p.m. in the Kucheryavy automobile we went to the concert. The hall was very fine, but there were not many people, which surprised me as Gottlieb had been telling me they would have to put seats on the stage. I very much enjoyed performing a programme on which I had worked so thoroughly. For the first time I played the Schubert waltzes and also, not counting the charity concert in Kislovodsk before I left Russia, Chopin. It was a tremendous success, but I played only three encores, not wanting to give any more. Dina sang her numbers in the middle of the programme; she wore a gorgeous gown and looked quite pretty, but her singing was no more than average. After the concert we had tea at Professor Cheville's. Gottlieb was upset that there had not been more people at the concert.
