Alexey Kal et al. in Los Angeles - 29 December, 1920, at night

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 29 December 1920, pages 563-564:

The songs [Ariadna Rumanova's] were followed by a symphonic poem with a fully written-out score. This was hideously inept, and yet in amongst the ineptitude one would suddenly come across a real invention, often incoherent but a real invention nonetheless. Initially I was not inclined to have any time at all for her music, but these attempts to say something new did win me over. On top of that, the score was beautifully written, with never a missing accidental.
