Sergei Prokofiev in Salle Gaveau, Paris - 28 April, 1921, at night
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 1 - 30 April 1921, page 599:
In the evening we went with the Stahls to the concert. I was given a box, which unfortunately was too near the orchestra, not to mention that the Salle Gaveau is too small for such a huge orchestra. The audience packed out the hall, there were people standing everywhere and it was only with some difficulty that I was able to elbow my way to the box. The first work on the programme was Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead, which Koussevitzky did magnificently. It had a good success, but I would not put it higher than that.
