Sergei Prokofiev in Chicago Opera - 5 December, 1921, in the afternoon
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 5 December 1921, page 639:
At one o'clock I got some good news: I was asked in to listen to the chorus, which was now said to be completely ready and in three days' time would have their music off by heart. Hurrah, the production has advanced a step forward to the first night. Nipoti has been meticulously making them learn every individual note of the passage where Koshetz curses the Prince, and was most disgruntled when I asked them merely to swoop up and down, confining accuracy to the top and bottom notes but nothing in between.
