Sergei Prokofiev in Chicago Opera - between 18 December, 1921, 12:00 AM and 18 December, 1921, 08:30 PM
from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 18 December 1921, page 648:
By 8 p.m. the stage reherasal to piano accompaniment, which had been going on since half past twelve, was still a complete mess (especially the Eccentrics), even though the next rehearsal will be with orchestra. Coini, whose brains have not yet concocted anything to make sense of the frantic dashing around in the final scene, asked me again to cut it altogether. I refused. 'You are very stubborn,' he said, and the running about commenced. I fell out with Smallens's playing of the piano accompaniment at the rehearsal, because he would rush the tempos and not look at my baton.
