My performance of the Concerto was almost good. I kept myself continually in check, and the enormous lengths I had gone to to prepare it securely paid off. I got very tired in the cadenza, but the scherzo probably went the best it has ever done. The orchestra went awry in the finale. The audience demanded one or even two bows from me after each movement, but the applause at the end was relatively modest, which may be partly explained by the unusual length of the first half of the concert, my Concerto coming at the end and wearing the listeners out.
